About Renewal Crosses
As with all Chaparral Wood Sculptures, these unique wooden crosses
are given a renewed life - as they are handcrafted out of the
broken-sticks, and dying trees, and decaying deadwood discovered
in our woods, of the Arizona high chaparral. The wooden cross has
been the most powerful symbol of Christian faith for almost 2,000
years, of course - as it represents both the death and
resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Sculptured wood has been the historic medium used by artists to
portray God's gift of - newness of life, or 'salvation' for
all who believe - to put it in classic terms. Roman Catholic and
Eastern Orthodox Churches have used the carved wooden crucifix to
focus the worshipper's attention on Christ's bloody-death,
while Reformed churches have used the ultra-simple form of the
empty wooden cross, to put more emphasis on the risen-savior, who
promises the gift of new life in the Spirit, for all who follow
Him.
These wooden crosses are fashioned to embody a compassionate
living form, in what could be termed: the best of both Christian
traditions - for the believer cannot separate the dying from God's
radical idea of: rising again to newness of-life.
According to Jesus' promise - all who believe will receive this
NEW LIFE as the result of his abiding Presence - through the gift
of His own Spirit. And, thus each cross is inscribed with the
image of the Dove, to remind each viewer of God's amazing grace
- the Gift of Renewal in Jesus' Name.
